Happy Mothers Day To My Mom, The Wiser Part Of Me
Mother/daughter relationships can be difficult. Our mothers may stress, annoy and anger us. They can also guide, nurture and inspire us. They have the uncanny ability to take you from one to the other in a single afternoon. My mother can be the sweetest at times, telling me how incredibly proud she is of me while serving my favorite home cooked treat but before I know it, she’s passively aggressively suggesting I should be ashamed for not cooking for my family. I’d like to think that I haven’t developed this special ability yet but my husband may disagree.
My mother and I have had some serious bumps in the past year or so. Our relationship went from close and loving to distant and at the verge of collapse. It’s now on the mend and we’re working through it. I hope this latest challenge can eventually bring us even closer. However, I sometimes dwell on the negative and the difficulties of this past year more than I would like. I recently stumbled upon the poem below I wrote for my mother when I was 20 years old (eek! 15 years ago!). It reminded me of all the warm and happy feelings my mom has consistently brought me. I had an amazing childhood thanks to her sacrifices and dedication. The words below brought back all the admiration and affection that this past year has veiled.
I’d like to share the poem for all of you momma’s who sometimes forget how much you are admired by your children…even when they don’t show it. And also for you ladies who sometimes need a reminder of how amazing your mom is…even when you’re questioning how the hell you two can be related.
Happy Mother’s Day.
